“3 years ago, one of my friends showed me Neeta’s profile on Instagram, and asked me if I was interested to meet her. I was going through a rough phase in life back then, so I immediately dismissed the idea and said that she was out of my league.
A few days later, I went to pick my friend up as we were supposed to hang out and to my (pleasant) surprise, she’d brought Neeta along! A lot of mixed feelings surged within me.
11th March 2018- that was the first time when I saw Neeta. We drove to a bar nearby to grab some drinks. We ate quite a lot of food, drank a lot and then rushed to another bar.
We ended up drinking a little too much. Neeta decided to wash down the last of my drinks as well! And she ended up sick. She texted me with an apology note the next morning, and that’s how we started talking. We started meeting very frequently after that.
Almost 3 months later, I decided to confess my true feelings to her. I didn’t expect much as Neeta didn’t have any history with women. But her confusion to my confession ended up making me leave our friendship for good.
She sent me several texts, but I didn’t reply to them. 2 days later, mutual friend of ours reminded me that I was supposed to help Neeta with shifting houses. We went over and packed her stuff through the evening without uttering a single word.
Later that night, when I reached home, we got into an argument over the messages. But that was when we realised we couldn’t be without each other. Thus began our relationship.
A month later, she had come to see me when I was sick and down with a fever. My mother had asked her to stay the night with us. And that was it! We’ve been living together since then, and it’s already been 2+ lovely years.
In the beginning of our relationship, I was hospitalised a few times. But Neeta stayed by my side until I was better. She went days without sleep and quit her job just to see me recover. She motivated and pulled me through each day.
Home never felt so warm like it does with her. We’ve come a long way, and it’s been a beautiful journey so far.” said Maitrayanee Mahanta
